    • Select a 3 minute test for Zebra, Africa's Striped Horse. Wait because we will start the test together.
    • Use the snap shot tool. On your keyboard hold down command, shift and 4. This will produce cross hairs. Draw a window around the score on Typing test.
    • Minimize the windows on your computer to see the desktop. Don't close the windows in the case the snapshot did not work. The snapshot tool creates a file named Picture 1. If there is already a picture1, look for picture2 and so on.
    • Drag your Typing test result to your word document so it is underneath your heading.
    • Resave
    • Print one copy.

We will have a paper and pencil quiz on the computer keyboard this week. Someone asked if you would be graded on the entire keyboard, and I said no. I told the class, "You need to know the entire keyboard." Good job for those of you who started studying early. We had one student return to the next class telling us that many keyboards are different. The two keyboards on the handout are different, and both of those keyboards are different than a laptop keyboard. All keyboards have similarities. How are all keyboards the same. Start with knowing where all the letters and numbers are located. Then follow the perimeter of the keyboard and know the command keys, (control, alt, command, enter/return. tab, delete/backspace etcetera).

Students learn how to choose effective keywords for searching online. They practice selecting keywords that are most relevant to a search prompt. Along the way, students discover hints for narrowing their search results.

Students will:
  • learn how keywords can help them find information online.
  • evaluate keywords for their relevance and helpfulness.
  • practice identifying the most effective keywords for different search scenarios.

Students remix media content to create a new creative piece. Along the way, they give proper credit to the artists whose images and sound clips they use.

    • Students make choices about what to do if they or their friends are cyberbullied. They are encouraged to "evolve" into an “Upstander” – someone who takes action to stop cyberbullying, rather than standing by.
    Students will:
    • compare different forms of cyberbullying and the roles of those involved.
    • interpret scenarios that illustrate how targets of cyberbullying feel.
    • identify ways to be an “Upstander” when cyberbullying occurs.

Keyboarding

Fifth through eighth grade students will improve their keyboarding proficiency skills with daily practice. Approved web sites will be used for tutorials, practice through games and regular assessment to monitor improvement. Refer to Typing Skills in the menu at right.
This week a three minute typing test and paper keyboard will be given. Students are expected to memorize the location of every key for an assessment during the week of September 24-28th, 2012.

Students learn that the Internet is a great place to develop rewarding relationships. But they also learn not to reveal private information to a person they know only online.
